We are excited to welcome students and teachers from around the world to the 23rd Japan Super Science Fair 2025. This fair is a special chance to share science, learn across cultures, and create ideas that can shape the future. We have prepared a special program that is not only interesting, but also inspiring and meaningful.
The challenges facing our planet have grown more urgent and complex. Climate extremes continue to intensify, with 2025 marking yet another year of unprecedented wildfires, floods, and global heat records. The acceleration of polar ice melt and biodiversity loss has renewed the call for science-based solutions rooted in global cooperation. Meanwhile, the expansion of generative AI, synthetic biology, and quantum computing is reshaping not only the future of science, but also the fabric of human society.
In recent months, the scientific community has witnessed remarkable breakthroughs from early-stage quantum networks to new gene-editing techniques that may one day cure hereditary diseases. At the same time, ethical concerns surrounding AI-generated misinformation, autonomous weapons, and the misuse of emerging technologies have prompted global debate about regulation and responsible practices. Therefore, the burden of responsibility falls upon you, the future scientists, to continue seeking truth in your research and contribute to a more peaceful world.
Now more than ever, the world needs the imagination and integrity of young scientists. You, the digital-native generation, hold the tools and perspective to shape science in ways that previous generations could only dream of. Whether in climate research, data science, space exploration, or biotechnology, your fresh ideas and ethical vision are vital to building a future where humanity shapes technology, not the other way around.
The 23rd Japan Super Science Fair, held from November 1 to 5, proudly continues Ritsumeikan’s dedication to the Super Science High School (SSH) initiative. The fair aims to cultivate scientific thinking, promote learning across different subjects and cultures, and create friendships through curiosity and discovery. This year, participants will also have the chance not only to use our school facilities but also visit the new STEAM Fab Labs here on campus.
We are excited to see the ideas and discoveries that will come from your discussions, research presentations, and collaborations. Each of you is like a wildflower, arriving from a different culture, country, and background. Throughout this week, we will provide the soil, sunlight, and support so that, at the final ceremony, we can witness something rare and beautiful—our own superbloom.
Let JSSF 2025 be the place where you connect with others, grow your ideas, and take the first steps toward a better future.
Welcome, and thank you for joining JSSF 2025!
I am Nanako Imazato. It is my great pleasure to welcome you all as the student representative of the 23rd Japan Super Science Fair (JSSF).
The slogan of this year’s JSSF is “Unite in Superbloom ~ Just Spread your Seeds and Fly~”. A “superbloom” is a rare natural event where an unusually large number of wildflowers bloom at once, creating a vast carpet of colors. Doesn’t this sound very much like us, who are full of big dreams, coming together for JSSF?
The superbloom we envision is full of diverse blooms, representing the participants, and the expressions of their genuine passions. Our goal is to make this year’s JSSF a fair where various emotions can be expressed. Everyone expresses their passions differently and in different situations. When do your genuine feelings shine through? I believe they emerge when you devote yourself wholeheartedly, when you give your all. That shared dedication where everyone is striving together at their best, that would be our superbloom.
We, the student committee members, are working hard to make programs which every participant can be enthusiastic about. You can improve the contents of your research by discussing it with many people and receiving valuable feedback during oral presentations and the poster exhibition. You can discuss and work on many science topics and challenges in Science Discussion, Showdown and Zone! Furthermore, you will have opportunities to both share your culture and experience other countries’ cultures during the culture performances and culture exhibitions.
This year, our school has been significantly renovated. The name of our new fabrication lab is “MILABO”. To enhance students’ creativity, we established a next-generation multipurpose lab equipped with computer-operated machine tools at our school. Some of you will have a chance to experience these facilities in one of the Science Zones.
In wrapping up my introduction, I would like to express my appreciation to the schools and teachers who are sending their students to JSSF and to the students looking forward to attending this year’s JSSF as well. Let’s all do our best to make this the best JSSF ever and create the most vibrant superbloom the world has ever seen!
I am really looking forward to seeing you all at Ritsumeikan High School!
